Woodworking Safety Guide
Woodworking tools can cause serious injury. Read and follow the manual for every tool you use. These plans do not replace training or the instructions from your tool's manufacturer.
Every project
Wear safety glasses and hearing protection. Use a dust mask or respirator when sanding or finishing. Keep blades sharp and guards in place. Clamp your work instead of holding it by hand, and never reach over a moving blade.
Load-bearing and children's projects
Beds, benches, shelves for heavy loads, outdoor structures and children's furniture carry extra risk. Our plans do not give load ratings. Check local building codes and safety standards, use quality fasteners, and test a finished piece carefully before use.
Finishes
Work in a well-ventilated space and follow the product label. Oily rags can catch fire on their own: lay them flat to dry outdoors or keep them in a sealed metal can with water.
